CenterPoint Theatre Presents: School of Rock 🤘
by Discover Davis
CenterPoint Theatre‘s take on Broadway favorite “School of Rock” (MWF) has the chops to compete with the blockbuster film itself! Everything from the movie you know and love and then some. I mean, just WOW. That’s all there is to say. I could go into all the reasons why you should see School of Rock this month, (and I will) but you should just take my word for it. This cast? STUPENDOUS. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a production with such talented kids. Truly show stopping from the kids to the adults.
“If Only You Would Listen” sung by the school kids was so beautiful and moving. I got chills! An honest reminder of the strife’s of childhood and how real it all felt then. “Where did the Rock Go?” sung by Michaela Shelton’s Miss Rosalie Mullins was equally a treat to sit in on. A moment that felt so vulnerable, it was like you were the only one she was singing to. Not to mention, Shelton’s operatic vocals were outstanding.
The music in this production is certainly the star of the show, but the dialogue shouldn’t go unnoticed. The pace was fast and quick witted. If you think this is a show just for children, hahaha oh you are so wrong! Truly a musical that even the parents will get a kick out of.
The man of the hour was of course, our rock god Dewey Finn IE Ned Shneebly played by the oh-so talented JR Moore. It’s like Jack Black and Moore switched places backstage and I didn’t know the difference. He brings the energy and the passion. Dare I say, the heart of the whole thing.
All together, the cast brought down the house and gave the audience a real concert! Had to stop myself from yelling, “ENCORE!” I had a smile on my face I could not wipe away and that is just how happy this show makes you.
Get your tickets TODAY and get ready to stick it to the man! 10/10. 5 stars.
