HERMES, ICARUS AND THE FATES: ALLYSON GLENN

May 30 @ 10:00 am - August 15 @ 6:00 pm

For the ancients, stories transformed perception and helped make sense of the inexplicable – natural phenomena, mysteries, the life cycle. Since people took their stories and icons with them, myths inevitably changed when communities transcended borders. Fascinated by this topic, my artwork explores myths’ influence on the fictional worlds we construct and the real ones we experience. This research has led me to several countries where I have photographed antiquity sculptures, ancient ruins, museum collections, botanical gardens, and ornament stores. On occasion, dreams have inspired me to seek out a place, or an object. I make artworks in painting, drawing, animation, and printmaking. Experimenting between mediums has led to abstraction (having typically worked figuratively until recently), and a desire to capture a sensation of time within two-dimensional works.
