Located within the Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area, this center provides a premier opportunity to learn about and appreciate the wildlife community of the Great Salt Lake wetlands. Where Science and Imagination Meet

Admission to the center and its grounds is free, making it an accessible outdoor destination for children and adults of all ages.

Gate Hours: The entry gate opens at 7:00 a.m. and closes at 5:00 p.m. Limited exceptions may apply for meetings and facility needs.

Starting June 2026, the main entry gate will remain open later on Mondays so visitors can experience the wetlands at sunset. Please help keep these extended hours active by visiting responsibly and respecting the property.

After-Hours Access: The nature trails may be used during daylight hours any day of the week and on holidays. During daylight hours when the gate is closed, visitors may access the nature trails through the walk-through entrance located on the east side of the gate.

Facilities: The center’s Conservation Hall is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering visitors the opportunity to explore exhibits and visit with knowledgeable staff and volunteers who are happy to answer questions about the wetland ecosystem and its wildlife.

Groups: Field trips and group visits are welcome, but advance planning is essential. Before visiting, please review the center’s website for information on available programs, self-guided group visits, permit requirements, and reservation procedures.

Take Note of the Nature Trail

The 1.6-mile paved Nature Trail Loop wanders through the heart of the wetlands. This short and easy path includes a boardwalk section, giving visitors a close-up view of the sights and sounds of Farmington Bay.

Scavenger Hunt: Families can download or print a fun scavenger hunt to use while walking the trail.

Wildlife Sightings: Depending on the time of year, look for bald eagles, sandhill cranes, and owls.

Viewing Platforms: Stop at various points along the loop to gain a better vantage point of the marsh.

Important Trail Guidelines

To protect ground-nesting birds during the summer nesting season, visitors should stay on the designated trails at all times.

  • No Wheels: Bicycles and scooters are not permitted on the trail.
  • Pet Policy: To ensure the safety of the wildlife, dogs must be on leash.

The George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Wildlife Education is located on the Robert N. Hasenyager Great Salt Lake Nature Reserve. The center and reserve, as well as the adjacent Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area are owned and managed by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR).
