End of Summer Bucket List
As the days get a little shorter and the evenings a little cooler, summer’s final chapter is officially being written. But before we trade swimsuits for sweaters, there’s still time to soak up every last bit of sunshine and adventure. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, Davis County offers a perfect mix of outdoor fun, local flavor, and unforgettable experiences. Here’s your ultimate End-of-Summer Bucket List to make the most of it:
Spend a day at Lagoon
Lagoon is the ultimate Utah summer tradition — and it’s the kind of place where you can be a kid again, no matter your age! Start your day with the adrenaline rush of Cannibal (a 208-foot vertical drop), race your friends on the wooden classic Colossus: The Fire Dragon, and cool off in Lagoon-A-Beach, the on-site water park packed with slides, lazy rivers, and splash zones. Don’t leave without a fresh-powdered funnel cake. And if you’re up for it, stay late and ride the coasters under the stars. The park is now only open on weekends through the fall season.

Attend an outdoor show
There’s something magical about watching live music or theater as the sun sets behind the Wasatch Mountains. Davis County has several outdoor events during August, from free summer concerts in the park to community productions and local cover bands. Bring a blanket, some snacks, and good company — these shows are perfect for families, date nights, or just soaking up warm summer vibes. Check out the Davis Arts Council for their remaining summer shows.

Hike to a waterfall
Escape the heat and breathe in some fresh mountain air with a hike to Adams Canyon Falls. This moderately challenging trail near Layton winds through scrub oak and pine forests, offering shady switchbacks and panoramic views of the valley below. After about 1.5 miles of effort, you’ll be rewarded with a 40-foot waterfall cascading into a misty grotto — perfect for a refreshing break and a few Insta-worthy photos. Go early to beat the crowds and heat! Check out our waterfall hikes here!

Walk the farmers market
Celebrate the harvest season by spending a morning at a local farmers market. The Bountiful, Sunset, Syracuse and West Point farmers markets offer fresh produce, baked goods, handmade crafts, live music, and more. There’s nothing quite like biting into a perfectly ripe peach or sampling artisan cheese while chatting with local farmers. It’s a simple pleasure that captures the heart of late summer. Bountiful – Thursdays @ Bountiful Square, 4-8 pm
Sunset – Tuesdays @ Sunset Skate Park, 5-9 pm
Syracuse – Thursdays @ Syracuse Museum, 5-9pm
West Point – Fridays @ Loy Blake Park, 5-9 pm
Eat at a food truck rally
One of the best ways to taste the diversity of Davis County is through its food truck scene. From Korean BBQ and gourmet grilled cheese to bubble waffles and loaded fries, there’s something for every craving. Check out food truck rallies in North Salt Lake and Bountiful — often complete with live entertainment and lawn games. Bonus: No need to choose just one dish — go with friends and sample a little bit of everything.
North Salt Lake – Mondays @ Legacy Park, 5-8pm
Bountiful – Tuesdays & Fridays @ Bountiful Square, 5-8pm
Explore Antelope Island on horseback
Trade pavement for panoramic views with a guided horseback ride across Antelope Island State Park with the Rhodes Valley Outfitters. You’ll trot along dusty trails that weave through golden grasses, salt flats, and rugged hills, all with the Great Salt Lake shimmering on the horizon. Keep your eyes peeled for wild bison, antelope, and birds of prey. It’s a peaceful, grounding way to experience Utah’s wild beauty, a memory you’ll never forget.

Dine outside at Station Park
Take dining to the next level at Station Park’s Fountain Square, where open-air seating, ambient music, and a choreographed dancing fountain set the stage. Choose from a variety of restaurants — whether you’re in the mood for Italian, Chinese, or an upscale bistro experience. It’s the perfect setting for a summer date night or a relaxing dinner with family under the stars.

Get a Rainbow from Pace’s Dairy Ann
Old-school charm and summer flavor collide at Pace’s Dairy Ann in Bountiful and Layton. A rainbow icee from here is a local legend layered with brightly colored frozen slush and topped with a swirl of vanilla soft serve. Add in a burger or one of their creamy shakes and you’ll understand why this retro drive-in has been a go-to summer stop for generations.

Cool off at the splash pad
If you’ve got young kids — or just want to feel like one again — hit up a splash pad before the season ends. Legacy Park in Farmington and Syracuse’s Centennial Park both offer water features, spray zones, and shaded pavilions perfect for a picnic. It’s a low-cost, high-fun way to cool off in the midday sun. Don’t forget sunscreen and towels!

Paddle the Jordan River from Porter’s Landing
For a serene summer adventure, launch a kayak or paddleboard from Porter’s Landing in North Salt Lake and float down the Jordan River Parkway. The water is calm and the route is beginner-friendly, winding through wetlands, tree canopies, and quiet stretches of shoreline. It’s a peaceful way to reconnect with nature and enjoy a side of Davis County most people never see.
