Beginning to Intermediate Oil Painting with Theresa Otteson

Wednesdays January  18th to February 22nd 7:00 to 9:00 PM Ages 14+   In the first two weeks, students will learn about color mixing, color theory, and what makes a good composition as well as spend time beginning a painting. The rest of the classes will be spent painting and receiving one-on-one and group instruction.   Supply list These supplies are not set in stone. If you have supplies already, bring what you have. PAINT (Utrecht, Dick Blick, Gamblin, and Winsor Newton all have student-grade paints that work well) Ultramarine Blue Pthalo Blue Alizarin Crimson Cadmium Red Cadmium Yellow Light Yellow Ochre Burnt Sienna Titanium White BRUSHES #12 flat #10 flat #10 round You can add more brushes as you see fit OTHER EQUIPMENT Palette knife Odorless turpentine or mineral spirits Painting medium such as Liquin Palette (a glass cutting board can work well for this but please don’t get plastic palettes with little wells) Container with a lid to hold turpentine and to clean brushes Paper towels or rags A couple of canvas or canvas boards no larger than 11” x 14” Please bring 3-4 pictures of simple subjects that you are interested in painting. Supplies can be purchased at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Peterson Art Center (employees are good here at helping to find good student grade supplies that cost less), and online at Dick Blick and Cheap Joes.
