DESCRIPTION:The Art Exhibit\n\nThe Book of Mormon has changed the lives of millions of people throughout the world as a set of scriptures utilized by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It was named the Fourth Most Influential Work in American Literature by the United States Library of Congress and was voted one of the Top Ten Most Life Changing Books by readers of Parade Magazine. It has been translated into over one hundred languages\, and with over 200 million copies printed\, it ranks as the Sixth Most Printed Book of All-time. Yet what makes the Book of Mormon remarkable is not its extensive reach\, but rather the lasting imprint it leaves on the individual lives of its readers.\n\nIn a 2 day free art exhibit and book launch\, with over 30 powerful new paintings\, the stories from the Book of Helaman in the Book of Mormon are brought to life. The paintings bring these stories to our day so we can more closely see ourselves within the people’s struggles and joys found within the Book of Helaman. The principles taught within these pages might then be more easily recognized and applied. Its message of faith and redemption might then remind us that in our darkest times\, in the depths of our shadows\, hope still will lighten the horizon.

DESCRIPTION:The Bountiful Davis Art Center’s Statewide Annual is a competitive exhibition celebrating the diverse artistic talents within Utah. This event serves as a vital platform for early and later career artists\, providing significant exposure and opportunities for professional growth within the vibrant Utah arts community. \nThis exhibition showcases a wide array of artistic disciplines\, from traditional paintings and sculptures to innovative installations and new media works. Each year the BDAC selects a guest juror to curate the exhibition and award the three strongest pieces. \nWe are pleased to welcome Joseph Ostraff as our 2024 juror. \nJoseph was born in Santa Monica\, California\, spent his formative years in Laguna Beach\, and now resides in Fairview\, Utah\, with his family. He holds an MFA from the University of Washington and currently serves as art department chair and professor of art at Brigham Young University. Joseph maintains a rigorous painting studio practice\, complemented through partnerships and collaboration. His primary collaborator is his wife\, Melinda\, with whom he shares a studio. Melinda\, who earned her PhD from the University of Victoria\, BC\, with a focus on Ethnobotany\, has seamlessly integrated her expertise with Joseph’s\, resulting in a unique practice centered around the intersection of human geography and nature. Recently\, Melinda and Joseph were featured on season one of the KBYU Artful Series. Joseph is a three-time recipient of the Utah Artist Fellowship\, as well as a recipient of the Ballinglen Artist Fellowship in Ballycastle\, Co Mayo\, Ireland. SUMMARY:Bicentennial Art: A 1976 Historical Exhibit Redux
DESCRIPTION:Art enriches community and northern Utah’s community is connected through historical events that continue to impact citizens in the present. By reviving historical art first shown almost 50 years ago\, the Kaysville – Fruit Heights Museum opens new conversations about how the interpretation of history can change over time while the works of those skilled artists continues to inspire anew.\n\nThe public is invited to view selected paintings from a revival of an exhibit first commissioned for the National Bicentennial of 1976. On display are 28 pieces created by sixteen artists. The 2023 exhibit is shown in collaboration with Weber State Storytelling Festival and supported by a grant awarded by Utah Arts and Museums. The artwork is comprised of  reproductions of oil\, acrylic and water color paintings showcasing some of the works created by well-known Utah artists active during the mid 20th to early 21st Centuries. Brief biographies of the selected artists are available online. See the associated artist list for this event as well as information for Fred Hunger\, Farrell Collett\, Mary R. Warnock\, Franz Johansen and Lee Parkinson.\n\nThe redux exhibit is also intended to demonstrate how art can open the past to new interpretations for later generations. The artwork shown includes paintings of groups of people who were integral to the development of northern Utah such as trappers and mountain men\, Native Americans\, pioneers and other settlers as they participated in some well-known\, but many poorly understood events from the past.
