SUMMARY:Artists Who Teach: Art Educators’ Group Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Art educators are often understood first through the work they do for others: teaching technique\, guiding critique\, encouraging experimentation\, and helping students develop confidence in their own ideas. But behind that work is another sustained practice—the educator’s own life as an artist.\n\nArtists Who Teach brings together art educators\, many working in Utah’s colleges and universities\, whose studio practices remain an essential part of their creative and professional lives. Their work reflects the ongoing process of inquiry\, experimentation\, discipline\, and discovery that they ask of their students every day.\n\nTeaching and making are deeply connected. The classroom can introduce new questions\, perspectives\, and ways of thinking\, while the studio provides educators with a place to test ideas\, take risks\, and remain engaged in the challenges of contemporary artistic practice. Each role informs the other.\n\nThese artists also occupy an important position within Utah’s cultural landscape. Through their classrooms and studios\, they help shape how future artists learn to see\, question\, communicate\, and participate in a larger creative community. Their influence is not limited to individual students; it extends outward through generations of artists\, educators\, designers\, and cultural contributors.\n\nPresented alongside BDAC’s Statewide Emerging Artists’ Annual\, the exhibition offers a glimpse of that influence in motion. Emerging artists are developing their voices and finding their place within the field\, while artist-educators continue their own creative work and help cultivate the conditions in which new artistic voices can grow.\n\nThis exhibition celebrates educators not simply for the artists they help shape\, but as artists themselves—makers whose own curiosity\, rigor\, and creative work remain vital to the communities they serve.\n\n\n\nThis calendar listing is brought to you by NowPlayingUtah.com\, Utah’s one-stop\, online website for arts and entertainment events\, powered by the Utah Cultural Alliance.

SUMMARY:Statewide Emerging Artists' Annual
DESCRIPTION:Juried By Christopher Lynn\n\nEvery artistic career begins with a period of discovery—a time when artists are developing their voices\, taking creative risks\, and seeking opportunities for their work to be seen.\n\nThe Statewide Emerging Artists’ Annual (SWEAA) was created to support artists at this pivotal stage. Now in its second year\, this competitive juried exhibition brings together artists from across Utah who are still building their careers. They may be university students or recent graduates\, self-taught artists\, artists returning to their practices after significant gaps\, or individuals whose creative journeys have followed less traditional paths.\n\nSWEAA is both a showcase and an incubator. It gives emerging artists the opportunity to present their work in a professional gallery\, reach new audiences\, and have their work considered by an established arts professional. Selected artists are eligible for unrestricted cash awards\, and the artist receiving Best in Show will be offered a solo exhibition at BDAC in 2027.\n\nBy creating meaningful visibility and professional connections for artists at the beginning of their careers\, SWEAA strengthens Utah’s broader arts community. The exhibition recognizes that emerging artists are not simply preparing to make an impact in the future—they are making meaningful work now.\n\n\n\nThis calendar listing is brought to you by NowPlayingUtah.com\, Utah’s one-stop\, online website for arts and entertainment events\, powered by the Utah Cultural Alliance.
