DESCRIPTION:Darren Parry\, former Chairman of the Northwest Band and the Shoshone Nation\, and lake-facing poet Nan Seymour will guide a friendly practice of finding\, cultivating\, and sharing our stories of kinship with the beyond human world.\n\nHave you have ever fallen in love with a river\, befriended a tree\, or felt a kinship with a wild animal or bird? All forms of life have a spirit. Even the rocks are singing. We’ll spend some time together remembering what we came into this world knowing. We’ll employ generative writing practice (River Writing) to help us find our stories. With support from our community agreements\, we’ll practice listening to each other in gratitude\, without critique or praise.\n\nSunday\, March 10th\, 1:00-4:00pm\nAntelope Island State Park Visitor Center media room. (State park fee of $15 applies)\nLimited to 16 participants. (Age 16+)\nNo expertise required\, just a little courage. Everyone has stories to tell! Community partners from around Northern Utah will gather to showcase their stories and their work to uncover the impact of Black military history in Northern Utah\, and other aspects of black history across the state.\nWHO IS INVITED? Everyone is welcome! Especially if you have memories you want to share from your time at Hill Air Force Base.\n\nHave something to share? All participants will receive a t-shirt* and 5K participants will get a medal! Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory\, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats\, but the fifth is a likable young lad named Charlie Bucket\, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka’s rules in the factory – or suffer the consequences.

SUMMARY:Bicentennial Art: A 1976 Historical Exhibit Redux
DESCRIPTION:Art enriches community and northern Utah’s community is connected through historical events that continue to impact citizens in the present. By reviving historical art first shown almost 50 years ago\, the Kaysville – Fruit Heights Museum opens new conversations about how the interpretation of history can change over time while the works of those skilled artists continues to inspire anew.\n\nThe public is invited to view selected paintings from a revival of an exhibit first commissioned for the National Bicentennial of 1976. On display are 28 pieces created by sixteen artists. The 2023 exhibit is shown in collaboration with Weber State Storytelling Festival and supported by a grant awarded by Utah Arts and Museums. The artwork is comprised of  reproductions of oil\, acrylic and water color paintings showcasing some of the works created by well-known Utah artists active during the mid 20th to early 21st Centuries. Brief biographies of the selected artists are available online. See the associated artist list for this event as well as information for Fred Hunger\, Farrell Collett\, Mary R. Warnock\, Franz Johansen and Lee Parkinson.\n\nThe redux exhibit is also intended to demonstrate how art can open the past to new interpretations for later generations. The artwork shown includes paintings of groups of people who were integral to the development of northern Utah such as trappers and mountain men\, Native Americans\, pioneers and other settlers as they participated in some well-known\, but many poorly understood events from the past.

DESCRIPTION:OPENING RECEPTION: NOVEMBER 17\, 6-8 PM |ON VIEW: NOVEMBER 17-DECEMBER 23\nArtist Statement: I consider myself a fiber art adventurer\, experimenting and exploring the tactility\, richness\, flexibility\, dimension\, and intimacy of textiles. I began sewing at my mother’s knee and was taught by example the love of fabric.  Although you can see sewing and quilting roots in my work\, I quickly moved through traditional quilting and on to fiber art\, or textiles that removed themselves and their functionality from the bed and struck out with certainty to join art on the wall.\n\n​I am inspired by the world I inhabit and my perception of it.  I am just as likely to be captured by the shape and pattern of cracks in asphalt as I am by the glory of nature. People do think I am a bit nuts photographing a parking lot on my hands and knees\, and maybe they are right. But I carry on\, capturing the beauty or whimsy I see and translating it to fabric.  I completely lose myself while manipulating fabric by adding color\, taking color away\, molding it to create shapes\, and by adding texture through thread and raw edges. There is a kind of alchemy in taking a two dimensional medium and moving it out\, away from the wall\, in transforming the fabric surface\, in adding stitched texture to enhance the richness or depth of a design\, in choosing to not clip strings or adding yet more dangling threads\, and in leaving edges raw and letting them—even encouraging them—to ravel.\n\n​Cloth is such a personal and intimate thing; it covers us day and night. And maybe because fabric is so comforting and warm against our skin\, textile art is the perfect medium to invite\, perhaps even compel\, a stolen touch. And that\, too\, is part of the medium’s magic. If I could be granted one art wish\, it would be that everyone who sees my work would be allowed to touch it\, for I think that intimacy would surely connect us. We as humans are born to touch—the world around us and each other.\n\n​Artist Biography: Rosanna Lynne Welter has roots in traditional quilting but quickly transitioned to textile art once she began exploring the exciting processes and techniques advancing the fiber arts movement. Just as she was emerging in the field\, “life” put art on extended pause as she cared for elderly parents and earned a living. Eventually the long drought ended\, the floodgates reopened\, and her art began flowing again in 2018\, moving her down an exciting new path. As a self-taught artist\, her work is filled with naivety\, dimension\, whimsy\, texture\, and lots of thread. In 2019\, Rosanna began exhibiting again and has competed and shown work locally\, regionally\, and nationally/internationally. Rosanna’s work is in private collections and has been published in multiple books. Her early works were exhibited at Quilt National\, International Quilt Expo in Innsbruck Austria\, and the Musée des Tissue in Lyon France. She is also a past recipient of a Utah Arts Council/NEA Individual Artist Grant.\n\n​Currently\, Rosanna is a member of 4 Common Corners\, an invitational fiber group of artists located in Colorado\, Arizona\, New Mexico\, and Utah(4commoncorners.com)\, and Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA.com) where she served on the CO/UT/ WY Regional Exhibition Committee. Locally\, she served as Exhibitions Chair for the Utah Surface Design Group and now serves as Treasurer. Rosanna\, an Idaho native living in Utah\, is currently focused on her daily art practice at her in-home studio in West Valley\, Utah where she lives with her husband\, 3 rescue dogs\, and a rescue kitty.

Staged photographs from family gatherings\, candid shots of siblings and parents\, and friends smiling together in frozen frames do not often show the unspoken emotions held by their participants. This series pulls apart the complex layers of these social and familial interactions to allow wounds to air and secrets to speak. Each piece features hand manipulated film slides from discarded and forgotten family collections. No digital processing or altering has been used.\n\n​\n\nArtist Biography:\n\nJustin Chouinard (MFA Media Studies\, SUNY Buffalo) is a Salt Lake City\, UT\, based artist creating photographic works\, motion image artworks\, projection performances\, sound art\, media sculptures\, and films. Much of his work focuses on the frailty of memory and its relation to aging analog technology.
