SUMMARY:ILLUMINATIONS
DESCRIPTION:OPENING RECEPTION: MARCH 1\, 6 – 8 PM\nON VIEW: MARCH 1 – 23\, 2024\nArtist Statement:\nThroughout time and space\, humanity has found our past in the ground and our future in the stars. Through patterns and documentation of these natural phenomena\, we understand where we are and how the universe operates. Illuminations seeks to recontextualize this habit of pattern seeking and meaning making by exploring humanity’s relationship to control and that which we have no hope of controlling. In this body of work\, both artists reference not only the aesthetic properties of light and its diverse sources\, but also the idiomatic tradition that accompanies them. While Wilson’s work imperializes celestial bodies\, contorting the stars into orderly rows and columns\, Trépanier’s work traps atmospheric sources of dynamic light into static vignettes. Her photo-based works imitate the proportions of shrines and relics\, pointing toward primordial sources of light. Both bodies of work aim to force human-made order upon wildly mysterious and untamable entities. In this way\, Illuminations examines the exchange between manipulation and order through the lenses of cosmic and earthly light.

SUMMARY:Humanities in the Wild: Songs from Along the Watershed: the Irreplaceable Poetry Reading 2024
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the third annual reading of irreplaceable\, a collective praise poem devoted to Great Salt Lake. Youth poets will bring their particular witness to the thousands of pelicans recently exiled from Gunnison Island. Our reading will also feature special guest\, Lisa Bickmore\, Utah’s current Poet Laureate.\n\nEvery word we read and sing will be presented directly to Great Salt Lake as an offering of love and devotion for our imperiled sacred lake.\n\nSaturday\, March 16th\, 2-4pm.\nAntelope Island State Park (further location and transportation details will be sent via email)\nEveryone is welcome!\nFree with registration.\nState park fee ($15 per vehicle) for access to Antelope Island will still apply. SUMMARY:The Hunchback of Notre Dame
DESCRIPTION:Based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney animated feature\, The Hunchback of Notre Dame showcases the film’s Academy Award-nominated score\, as well as new songs by Menken and Schwartz. Peter Parnell’s new book embraces story theatre and features verbatim passages from Hugo’s gothic novel.\nThe musical begins as the bells of Notre Dame sound through the famed cathedral in fifteenth-century Paris. Quasimodo\, the deformed bell-ringer who longs to be “Out There\,” observes all of Paris reveling in the Feast of Fools. Held captive by his devious caretaker\, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo\, he escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd\, only to be treated cruelly by all but the beautiful Romani woman\, Esmeralda. Quasimodo isn’t the only one captivated by her free spirit\, though – the handsome Captain Phoebus and Frollo are equally enthralled. As the three vie for her attention\, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the Roma – and it’s up to Quasimodo to save them all.\n\nRating: PG. Dark themes that may not be suitable for all audiences. We encourage you to understand the show and its content before purchasing tickets.
