Each year the BDAC selects a guest juror to curate the exhibition and award the three strongest pieces. \nWe are pleased to welcome Joseph Ostraff as our 2024 juror. \nJoseph was born in Santa Monica\, California\, spent his formative years in Laguna Beach\, and now resides in Fairview\, Utah\, with his family. He holds an MFA from the University of Washington and currently serves as art department chair and professor of art at Brigham Young University. Joseph maintains a rigorous painting studio practice\, complemented through partnerships and collaboration. His primary collaborator is his wife\, Melinda\, with whom he shares a studio. Melinda\, who earned her PhD from the University of Victoria\, BC\, with a focus on Ethnobotany\, has seamlessly integrated her expertise with Joseph’s\, resulting in a unique practice centered around the intersection of human geography and nature. Recently\, Melinda and Joseph were featured on season one of the KBYU Artful Series. Joseph is a three-time recipient of the Utah Artist Fellowship\, as well as a recipient of the Ballinglen Artist Fellowship in Ballycastle\, Co Mayo\, Ireland. DESCRIPTION:Born in Winnipeg\, Randy Bachman has become a legendary figure in the rock and roll world through his talents as a guitarist\, songwriter\, performer and producer. Bachman has earned over 120 gold and platinum album/singles awards around the world. His songwriting has garnered him the coveted #1 spot on radio playlists in over 20 countries and over the course of his career he has sold over 40 million records. Randy’s songs have been recorded by a broad range of artists and have been placed in dozens of TV shows\, films and commercials. Impressively\, his music has provided a veritable soundtrack for more than fifty years of popular music.\n\nBachman first scored Billboard radio chart success with his band The Guess Who in 1965 performing the song\, “Shakin’ All Over.” The Guess Who went on an unprecedented run of 5 singles that each sold a million copies\, all the product of the gold-plated Randy Bachman-Burton Cummings songwriting team. By 1970\, The Guess Who had sold more records than the entire Canadian recording industry to that point\, even outselling the Beatles that year. Their hits included “These Eyes\,” “Laughing\,” “Undun\,” “No Time\,” “No Sugar Tonight\,” and “American Woman.”\n\nDue to health concerns and desiring a change in lifestyle\, including spending more time with his young family\, Randy left The Guess Who at the height of their success. While this move stunned the music world\, Randy knew that he could never leave music behind. He formed Brave Belt – a country rock outfit in 1970 and experimented with a new musical style and lineup that eventually metamorphosed into Bachman-Turner Overdrive.\n\nUnbelievably\, Randy’s success with Bachman-Turner Overdrive would eclipse his earlier triumphs and give him yet a third run at the pop music charts. Monstrous hits for the band included\, “Let it Ride\,” “Roll on Down the Highway\,” “Takin’ Care of Business\,” “Hey You\,” “Looking Out for #1\,” “Four Wheel Drive” and “You Ain’t\n\nSeen Nothin’ Yet” which reached #1 in over 20 countries. Randy’s career has been built upon his unstoppable drive to work at creating music. He has released numerous solo albums throughout his career\, and has simultaneously worked at producing for other artists. His production/writing work with Canadian rock band Trooper generated gold and platinum records in the 1970s.

A mobile blacksmith shop to repair wheels\, tools etc.   Learn the art of the farrier and watch how horses and mules are shod. A real live ‘Spinster’\, will teach the art of making yarn from fleece so warm socks could be made by all ages to send to the soldiers. The west was uncharted and inhabited by Indigenous Nations that did not speak English\, learn what was needed for survival in the uncharted west\, by Mountain Man Karl.  Play old time children’s games that taught work ethics they would use as adults.  Pick a prize from the Pocket Lady.  Have wounds bandaged by the nurses in the triage tent\, hear the story of the birth of the Red Cross.  Roasted Corn and stuffed potatoes will be available for purchase.\n\nCome and spend some time meeting our South Davis Fallen Veterans who lost their lives in service of the United States of America\,  read the crosses of honor and learn of those who gave their lives protecting America’s freedom.\n\nThis event will be held from 6:00 until dark\, water bottles and Banbury Cross Donuts will be available for all\n\nFree Event   Held on the campus of City Hall and The Whitaker Museum   250 North Main Street\,  Centerville Utah
