SUMMARY:Gather & Grow | Reclaiming Your Attention
DESCRIPTION:In a world designed to capture our attention\, many of us feel scattered\, overstimulated\, and stuck in the scroll cycle. Research continues to show that micro-distractions\, including smartphones\, can interfere with our ability to concentrate\, which can negatively impact our focus\, sleep\, mood\, and overall cognitive well-being. But here’s the good news: we don’t have to quit technology to feel better. By learning to be intentional with technology\, we’re able to reclaim time that can then be put towards more meaningful and enjoyable hobbies.\n\nJoin us for a cozy\, hands-on wellness workshop where we’ll explore:\n\nWhy attention is one of your brain’s most valuable resources\nHow passive scrolling affects focus\, sleep\, and stress levels\nThe rise of the “analog renaissance” — and why tactile hobbies are trending\nWhy replacing a habit works better than restricting one\n\nAfter a short\, engaging lecture on brain health and digital wellbeing\, you’ll design your own “Analog Bag” — a tote designed to hold simple\, screen-free activities you can grab instead of your phone. Think books\, puzzles\, journaling supplies\, knitting\, sketching\, or whatever helps you reconnect to the present moment.\n\nThis isn’t about a digital detox. It’s about training our brains to remember other sources of dopamine\, calm\, and connection.\n\nTote bags and supplies to decorate the bag are included.\nThis calendar listing is brought to you by NowPlayingUtah.com\, Utah’s one-stop\, online website for arts and entertainment events\, powered by the Utah Cultural Alliance.

SUMMARY:Taming Emotions Through Art: Aatmica Ojha

SUMMARY:Brave Like Eve
DESCRIPTION:Brave Like Eve: Curated by Laura Erekson & Nicole Woodbury\n\nExhibition Run Dates: 01.14 – 03.27\n\nBrave Like Eve reenvisions one of the most iconic origin stories in religious tradition – one that has profoundly shaped societal perceptions of womanhood. Rooted in Latter-day Saint theology\, which emphasizes Eve’s essential and courageous role in God’s plan\, the exhibition invites viewers to reconsider Eve’s legacy as one of informed choice and sacred responsibility.\n\nThe exhibition challenges long-held narratives that have cast Eve—and by extension\, all women—in a negative light. We aim to portray Eve as a thoughtful woman taught at the feet of Heavenly Parents\, gifted with wisdom to take steps necessary to bring forth our very existence\, and courageously faithful to Christ. In doing so\, it opens space to rethink how women are seen across history and culture—no longer burdened by shame and subjugation\, but honored as brave\, like Eve.\n\n\n\nThis calendar listing is brought to you by NowPlayingUtah.com\, Utah’s one-stop\, online website for arts and entertainment events\, powered by the Utah Cultural Alliance.

SUMMARY:Recollected Forwards: James Talbolt & Maddison Colvin
DESCRIPTION:Recollected Forwards: James Talbolt & Maddison Colvin\nExhibition Run Dates: 01.14 – 03.27\n\nPhotographs are acts of repetition and recollection—attempts to hold what is already passing. This exhibition brings together two artistic approaches shaped by return: to places\, to images\, and to fleeting moments that resist being fully contained.\n\nArchival photographs taken by anonymous individuals a century ago quietly assert presence—I was here\, this is what I saw. From these images\, an artist draws the overlooked plants lingering at the margins\, translating their shadows\, growth\, and eventual disappearance into intimate new forms. What was absent becomes present again through careful attention.\n\nAt the same time\, a contemporary photographer repeatedly walks his neighborhood\, returning to the same subjects as light shifts and seasons change. These images are not about capture\, but about perception—about how meaning emerges through repetition. Between memory and return\, the works in this exhibition explore how looking again allows understanding to deepen\, and how time transforms seeing into something poetic.\n\n\n\nThis calendar listing is brought to you by NowPlayingUtah.com\, Utah’s one-stop\, online website for arts and entertainment events\, powered by the Utah Cultural Alliance.

SUMMARY:Wayfinding by Jessica Larson
DESCRIPTION:At the heart of Wayfinding is the humble tool — not only as an instrument of making\, but as a symbol of intention\, presence\, and care.\n\nIn this exhibition\, Southern Idaho–based interdisciplinary artist and educator Jessica Larsen presents wall-mounted and sculptural works that blur the line between functional object\, symbolic form\, and quiet abstraction.\n\nDrawing from her background in fine woodworking and rural craft traditions\, Larsen reimagines tools as emotional implements — wayfinders\, protectors\, and companions designed not to work on the world\, but to work within it. These pieces suggest use without instruction\, inviting intuitive engagement and personal interpretation. Minimalist in form and surreal in tone\, the works carry the quiet authority of objects shaped by hand and held with purpose.\n\nRooted in Larsen’s practice as a reiki practitioner\, each work is created with intentional energetic presence — meant to hold space\, support reflection\, or offer subtle guidance. Using modest and reclaimed materials including gypsum cement\, wood\, wax\, and fabric\, Larsen elevates what is often overlooked\, honoring the values of rural\, working-class making where resourcefulness\, care\, and skill are acts of both survival and creativity. Together\, the works in Wayfinding become quiet companions — tools for grounding\, healing\, and inner navigation.\nThis calendar listing is brought to you by NowPlayingUtah.com\, Utah’s one-stop\, online website for arts and entertainment events\, powered by the Utah Cultural Alliance.

SUMMARY:Surface and Sacrifice: Pablo Cruz-Ayala
DESCRIPTION:Surface and Sacrifice: Pablo Cruz-Ayala\nExhibition Run Dates: 02.26 – 03.26\n\nSurface and Sacrifice examines the emotional\, physical\, and generational weight carried by immigrant and undocumented families whose labor sustains the landscapes of Utah. Growing up in a mixed-status household\, I witnessed my parents build homes they could never own\, shape neighborhoods that would never credit them\, and work through exhaustion\, illness\, and uncertainty in pursuit of stability for their children. These memories root my practice and guide my material choices.\n\nWorking with concrete\, sand\, copper\, ancient earth pigments\, and acrylic\, I treat each artwork as a site where material history and family memory converge. These substances\, which I’ve seen associated with construction\, labor\, and resilience\, transform into metaphors for the unseen sacrifices that underlie immigrant survival. Their weight\, grit\, and fracture embody both burden and endurance.\n\nIn Surface and Sacrifice\, I integrate traditional Mexican techniques\, including papel picado patterns\, embroidery-inspired linework\, and altar-making sensibilities. These motifs weave through layers of industrial material\, suggesting the cultural inheritances carried across borders and preserved despite displacement. The surfaces evoke construction zones\, protest banners\, and devotional spaces\, sites of both struggle and reverence.\n\nThis exhibition is not solely autobiographical; it is communal in nature. It asks viewers to consider the invisible infrastructures of labor that uphold our cities and households. By foregrounding the textures of work and the echoes of migration\, these pieces honor undocumented families whose stories are often obscured beneath the very structures they help build. Through abstraction\, I invite audiences to feel\, rather than simply observe\, the weight and resilience of these lived experiences.\n\n\n\nThis calendar listing is brought to you by NowPlayingUtah.com\, Utah’s one-stop\, online website for arts and entertainment events\, powered by the Utah Cultural Alliance.
