CenterPoint Legacy Theatre Brings Back a Classic with “The Music Man”
After a year of patiently waiting, CenterPoint Legacy Theatre is proud to kick off the regular season’s program with Meredith Willson’s The Music Man. This charming blast from the past runs through May 15, 2021.
Set in 1912 Iowa, The Music Man features hilarious characters, memorable songs and a story for the ages as Harold Hill, a traveling salesman/con man stirs up trouble in River City. As he attempts to dupe the entire town with his “Think System,” the skeptical librarian Marian Paroo watches his every move. Knowing something is amiss, she gives him a chance to redeem himself even as the chemistry between them grows. Stay seated for the entire performance to see if he does!
Directed by Shelby Ferrin, musically directed by Tara Wardle, and choreographed by Aaron Ford, there is no shortage of fun in this memorable musical. For the M/W/F cast, Russ Maxwell’s unbeatably charming portrayal of the spellbinding cymbal salesman will have you eating from the palm of his hand from the moment he tips his hat. Mailee Halpin’s performance of Marian Paroo is steeped with delightful intellect, independence and romance. The entire cast shines brighter than a big brass band, and you’ll find yourself cheering on both their musical numbers and character development. Young Bridget Maxwell gets an extra ovation for her darling portrayal of Amaryllis during Act 1. And — as we’ve come to expect from CenterPoint — the scenery is stunning.
Show length is about two hours, plus a 15-minute intermission. Reserve your seat by calling the box office at 801-298-1302 or order tickets online at cptutah.org. CenterPoint Legacy Theatre is located at 525 North 400 West in Centerville.
