It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play at CenterPoint Legacy Theatre
It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, put on by a cast of six talented members at CenterPoint Legacy Theatre, is the perfect show to get you feeling the Christmas spirit. If you are worried about being socially distanced, have no fear, CenterPoint has you covered. Masks are required at the show and they seat you apart from other guests.
As I walked into the Leishman Hall, also known as their black box theater, I was interested to see how they were going to handle the set in this crazy year we call 2020. There in the theater were retro microphones spaced apart and a quaint little holiday set with the sound of Christmas music echoing to welcome everyone.
Because this was the live radio play, there was a table full of props to create the sound effects. This part was played by Kellie Chapman. It was fun to see and hear all of the fun sounds as the actors told the story we have all come to know and love.
The character of George Bailey was played by the charismatic Ed Farnsworth. There were multiple times throughout the show that his intonation and facial expressions reminded me so much of James Stewart’s rendition of George Bailey.
I was particularly impressed with the entire cast as they had to take on multiple characters, each accompanied with their own voices and personalities.
The play lasted about an hour and a half and time seemed to fly by as the sound effects, storyline and character dialogue kept you entertained throughout the entirety of the show. As I watched the play, I tried to imagine myself sitting around the old radio as my grandma once explained to me she had done. The cast did an amazing job bringing this story to life. I could picture the iconic movie at multiple points in the show that has become a tradition in my household this time of year. The message and reminder this storyline has to offer is especially great for this time of year.
The timeless messages in this story help to remind you that even though you are just one person, you matter, you are loved, and you can make a positive and lasting difference in someone else’s life.
